Unity and OSX status..

13 Dec 2012, 12:31

Hi there...

I know you are working on porting NOESIS GUI to other platforms, but is it really necessary to run the sample for Unity on a windows machine or does this work on OSX as well already?

When I try to execute the SamplesGallery scene all I get is:
DllNotFoundException: UnityRenderHook
  at (wrapper managed-to-native) Noesis.Kernel:UnityInitDevice ()
  at Noesis.Kernel.HookUnityGraphicsDevice () [0x00000] in /Volumes/Backup/Developer/Unity/_TruTopsGUI/Assets/scripts/Noesis/NoesisKernel.cs:128

  at NoesisGUI.Awake () [0x00000] in /Volumes/Backup/Developer/Unity/_TruTopsGUI/Assets/scripts/NoesisGUI.cs:26

(Filename: Assets/scripts/Noesis/NoesisKernel.cs Line: 128)

Our energy is now on V1.0 : win32 dx9, win32 ogl, ios, android (gles2.0) and unity (on windows dx9, ios and android).

In parallel to this we are experimenting more ports (raspberry, dx11...) and of course macosx. But theses steps depends if the users demand it. Then, my advice is: if you need something we are not working on,ask for it. :)

Yeah, a Linux version will be nice ;-)

I think it's a good idea to develop something crossplatform, espetialy on the three main OS desktop computer.
The fact that your are aleready working on a win32 OpenGL version is a good step to portability! ;-)

Just to chime in...my primary interest is in Unity Support for all the platforms it supports. But mainly: PC, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android and Win8 Store Apps (when Unity releases it).

I've just downloaded NoesisGUI-0.9.8.4060.7z and NoesisGUI-0.9.8.4060.unitypackage. When I add the unitypackage to an empty project and try to set the path in settings, I get an error:

"SDK seems to be out of date."

I'm running Unity on Mac OS X ... and ... obviously to do iOS builds you'll actually have to run Unity on Mac OS X. But when I understand this thread correctly, even though "GL" is supported, NoesisGUI will not even run on the Mac Unity Editor? Is that really true?

That would be really unfortunate ... I'll be installing Windows 8 x64 on bootcamp probably tomorrow, so I'll still be able to play around with it. And I have one GUI-heavy project where the target platforms are iOS, Android and Windows 8 (Phone), so I might still be able to use NoesisGUI for that project.

But my primary development machine is a Mac, so that's really necessary for me to use NoesisGUI in the long run (especially because Unity doesn't run too well in VMWare Fusion with Windows 8 x64 and I'm phasing out Windows 7).

Hi jashan, in v9.8 there is still no support for iOS or MacOSX. The error message could be more descriptive. We are improving it and working in those platforms.

Meanwhile, your unique alternative is using a virtual machine. :(

Thanks!

Unfortunately, Unity does not run in VMWare Fusion when using Windows 8 x64. At least not on my iMac.

So, using a virtual machine doesn't solve it. I'll have to use Bootcamp :-(
