Different Widget Sizes in Unreal's "New Editor Window (PIE)" and Standalone Game

18 May 2024, 06:35

Hello,

The scale of widget changes when I play the game in standalone game. In both options, I play the game full screen and I am not using any Viewbox elements.

Hi,

New Editor Window (PIE) uses a borderless window. The title bar is drawn by Slate. Meanwhile, Standalone uses a window with a real border. The fake title bar drawn using Slate is a few pixels taller than the real title bar (on Windows 11 on a 1080p monitor at least). The difference is not much, but enough to change the paint area and affect the output.

Is the difference you're seeing too large, or can it be explained by this difference in height?

Thanks!

Hello, sorry I should have included the difference between them. I am attaching screenshots for both scenarios, the difference is larger.

First one is Standalone, second one is editor pie.

The aspect ratios of the images are very different. Standalone is an almost square-ish 1858x2154, while the PI image is almost as tall as it is wide at 1198x2149.

Hey, I just cut the left side of the screen using the snipping tool to reduce the file size.
The ratio difference is due to my bad when snipping the left part of the screen.
Below you can find the screenshots for standalone full screen, standalone in window and pie window in order.
The last one, which is the Editor Pie Window is a lot smaller compared to other two. The difference between Standalone windowed and full screen, I think should be expected due to window bar. But, I think difference between the Editor Pie and Standalone windowed should not be this much. I am not using any Viewbox in XAML or any Unreal's UMG related stuff.

Sorry if I took your time more than necessary, thank you.

Thanks, that makes the difference obvious now.

Could you try enabling the option "Allow High DPI in Game Mode" in Project Settings > Engine > User Interface > DPI Scaling?

Yes, this solved it. Did not know about such an option.
Thank you!
