Noesis media playback

Hello,
I was researching into what Noesis supports for media playback (ie. video playback). Is there any documentation other than the sample package provided? I see the class help, https://www.noesisengine.com/docs/App.M ... s_doc_wrap, but was wondering if there was more details such as integration with a custom windows application.

Additionally, i was also wondering what codecs it supports, or if there's specific requirements on the video format.

Thank you!

Hi Adrian,

The MediaPlayer class is abstract and must be fully implemented on your side by using the MediaElement::SetCreateMediaPlayerCallback callback.

Within your MediaPlayer implementation, there is one particularly important virtual function:
/// Gets the texture source for rendering the video
virtual Noesis::ImageSource* GetTextureSource() const = 0;
Your implementation is responsible for updating this texture in any way you choose, which means that, architecturally, there are no inherent restrictions on codecs or formats. The choice of decoding and rendering pipeline is entirely up to you.

For reference, you may want to review the MediaPlayer implementations included in the app framework, such as D3D11MediaPlayer and D3D12MediaPlayer, to see practical examples of how this can be done.

Also, the VideoEffect sample demonstrates how to play video using shaders, which can be helpful if you want to explore GPU-based processing or special effects.
