Type resolution issues in UE5 (x:Class not working)

20 Dec 2025, 11:15

Hello everyone,

Wondering if anyone knows why I'm suddenly experiencing problems with a custom UserControl and x:Class not sticking to the C++ code-behind class? I've got a Noesis Studio project at the root of the UE5 project (left default name "Game") and I have a UE5 C++ module ("ArkaenNoesisModule") that registers the "MainMenuView" (UserControl) and appears to do everything correctly. But I get "type not found" error messages when I try to assign x:Class and as a result I can't use the control inside of any other element or do anything with it. I let it get pretty late on me and got tired, but some of the messages in the UE5 build log made me think that maybe it's treating things like they live in different assemblies/modules or something? Another forum post I came across earlier seemed to suggest the project filename might have something to do with this and/or maybe I need to edit the project file.

Is there some trick to the naming, namespace, module or project file conventions that I'm not doing correctly, and if so how does it need to be? Or is it expecting a specific file/folder structure or something?

Update ::

Problem solved! When I dug deeper into it and did some debugging, I discovered my module DLL wasn't actually loading and went back over everything carefully. The last step I'd forgotten in my tired state of mind was to go back and edit the .uproject file and define a json object for the module and tell the base game module to treat it as a dependency. Sometimes I'm a total goof, I guess, haha. :D

So anyone else working in UE5 with Noesis Studio, save yourself my pain of a sleepless night and don't forget this part in the uproject json:
"Modules": [
		{
		"Name": "ArkaenNoesisModule",
		"Type": "Runtime",
		"LoadingPhase": "Default",
			"AdditionalDependencies": [
				"Core", "CoreUObject", "Engine", "InputCore", "Noesis", "NoesisRuntime"
			]
		},
		{
			"Name": "Arkaen_UE5",
			"Type": "Runtime",
			"LoadingPhase": "Default",
			"AdditionalDependencies": [
				"Engine", "AIModule", "UMG", "ArkaenNoesisModule"
			]
		}
	]
If anyone else has trouble with C++ code-behind in UE5, I can give a bit more guidance here. Ask away ... or share any insights/wisdom you've gained, as I'm always down to learn some new stuff. :-)

Might be a good tip to add to documentation to remind dummies like me to edit their uproject, haha. :D

But note that when I dug deeper into all of my engine logs, I notice that I keep seeing this:
LogClass: Error: IntProperty FStudioProjectConfig::Order is not initialized properly. Module:NoesisRuntime File:Classes/NoesisSettings.h
LogAutomationTest: Error: LogClass: IntProperty FStudioProjectConfig::Order is not initialized properly. Module:NoesisRuntime File:Classes/NoesisSettings.h
Seems like changing the value in the Noesis Settings doesn't help, and sometimes it mysteriously changes to -1?

I keep seeing this:
LogClass: Error: IntProperty FStudioProjectConfig::Order is not initialized properly. Module:NoesisRuntime File:Classes/NoesisSettings.h
This is due to uninitialized member in FStudioProjectConfig. We fixed it for the next release. Thanks for reporting it!
