Noesis Studio with Linux (Fedora)
Hi Noesis Team,
I love Noesis Studio and I am so happy to see that you have it on the agenda to implement Linux support for Noesis Studio. I cannot get the beta (exe) to work with wine on Linux so far. I just wonder how you want to provide Noesis Studio for Linux?
I really hope being able to use it under Linux soon.

Re: Noesis Studio with Linux (Fedora)
Hey Danilo,
There are no immediate plans for a native Linux release at the moment. However, the current roadmap includes:
- Releasing a beta of C++ SDK with Studio
- Releasing Unity and Unreal plugins with Studio (which will also support macOS and Linux)
- Native versions for macOS and Linux further down the line
What kind of issues are you experiencing with Wine? The current Studio version is hardcoded to D3D11, but the upcoming Beta C++ SDK will support additional renderers (OpenGL, Vulkan, D3D11, and D3D12) similar to what we’re doing with the other samples.
Let me know what you're running into.

Re: Noesis Studio with Linux (Fedora)
I managed to get it working with Wine on Linux. The key was overriding msctf.dll and setting it to native, since Wine doesn’t implement ITfThreadMgr::GetFunctionProvider and Noesis Studio crashes without it. I didn’t debug the issue any further - the override was enough to make it work.
I also ran into crashes after opening a project caused by missing decoding plugins. On Arch Linux, installing gst-plugins-good resolved that issue.
Works now :D

Re: Noesis Studio with Linux (Fedora)
Thanks! We’ve received your crash reports. 🙂
The first issue involving IID_ITfThreadMgr has been fixed. Studio will now work without the native IME in this case.
The other crashes related to media have also been received. They’re low priority at the moment, but we do plan to fully resolve them later on.
If you could include your email and name when submitting reports, it would really help us better understand the scenarios in which these crashes occur.

Re: Noesis Studio with Linux (Fedora)
I didn’t realize I was actually submitting crash reports. The CrashReporter itself was crashing most of the time before I applied the DLL override, and once the override fixed the issue for me, I didn’t look into it further. Will do it if i encounter more crashes :) Looks actually stable right now.
Regarding the media-related crashes: I encountered them in two situations:
1) immediately after opening some of the example projects, and
2) in projects that did open, when pressing the preview button.
Both cases turned out to be caused by missing GStreamer decoding plugins (in my case, installing gst-plugins-good resolved it; probably a wine stub thing? idk).
I’ll test the upcoming build with the fix in a clean Wine prefix and also inside the Steam Proton sandbox. If it works there, that would be a nice win for everyone!

Did you have any joy with this, I'm struggling to get this working for the last couple of days.I didn’t realize I was actually submitting crash reports.
