XAML Code Behind Editor

20 Aug 2026, 18:59

Using Noesis Studio in Unity, how do I display an editor for XAML? I searched the documentation and tried every button in the editor. Thank you!

In the Asset panel or in the Tabs, the contextual menu gives you the option to "Open in VS Code".

Also, any element in the tree has an "Open in VS Code" option, which lets you jump directly to the corresponding line and column.

Is there any possibility of a light-weight integrated editor, similar to what Blend offered? Intellisense + Formatting would be sufficient.

@Stonstad, as soon as the project is running in Noesis Studio, Noesis studio runs a language server that is being recognised by Visual studio code (if you install the Noesis extension "noesistechnologies.noesisgui-tools" ) and that allows to have a few very useful intellisense and code completion with even your custom type etc.

I want to complete a bit this question. I do find relying on an external editor such as visual studio code totally viable but it could benefit some quality of life features:

I currently have a small experiment locally of a small extension that allows to research in the workspace the resources when clicking on a static/dynamic resource:
Go to declaration(on pressing F12 )/find reference, etc.
This would be nice if it came out of the box with the Noesis extension.

But some other things are unfortunately a bit more complicated to hack without having access to some internals of the language server/Noesis Studio such as exposing a way to deep link in between vscode and Noesis studio :
- being able to Right click -> open template in visual studio code would be very useful instead of just on a per file basis.
- from visual studio code : being able to select in a hierarchy and right-click > "Focus in noesis studio" which would open either the xaml page in the editor and select the selected element or open the template if it is in a resource dictionary etc)

We could implement this. Would you be open to sharing this code with us?
- being able to Right click -> open template in visual studio code would be very useful instead of just on a per file basis.
This works now. Any element in the tree can be opened in VS Code. This action will take you to the exact line and column where the element is defined.
We also added support for this in the Inspector.
- from visual studio code : being able to select in a hierarchy and right-click > "Focus in noesis studio" which would open either the xaml page in the editor and select the selected element or open the template if it is in a resource dictionary etc)
Could you please create a ticket for this?
