Summary0004462: Renaming Resources UX flow is unintuitive / hard to discover
Description

After exhausting several expected paths to rename a Resource it was assumed to not be possible within Studio.
Later, watching a tutorial revealed that the UX flow is to double-click on the Resource in the hierarchy to reveal an inline textbox that allows renaming.
By comparison, selecting UI elements shows a textbox for changing the name at the top of the properties panel, making it easy to understand how to rename them.

Better UX for this flow is expected, especially since using the "Duplicate" feature automatically assigns an undesirable name to the new Resource.

Would have helped having a "Rename" entry in the context menu shown when right-clicking a resource in the list of resources of the left panel?

"Rename" in the context menu would help, as long as it's also added to UI elements (and ideally the file list too).
Ideally, both of the more visible options ("Rename" in the menu and the text field at the top of Properties) would be available in both places without sacrificing the current double-click to preserve everyone's current workflows

Some further notes:

  • The "Edit Text (F2)" option is sometimes available in the top menu for a limited number of UI elements (found it active for Button and TextBlock). When I clicked this option on a Button it caused me to change the displayed text of the button. When I used it on a TextBlock it sometimes did nothing, sometimes crashed.
  • Using that F2 hotkey without the menu open causes you to rename UI elements and Resources as though you had followed the double-click flow.
  • When you use the F2 hotkey on an item in the Resources tab there is a glitch where it briefly shows that you are changing the name of the currently selected element in the UI hierarchy before correcting focus to the Resource.

Proposed changes as shown in the following Figma file:
https://www.figma.com/design/TmgDGVleIhKZwkLLgF1ZjW/UX-February-2026?node-id=18-2&t=ZJxdeMmPBNmmvaYe-1

RECOMMENDATIONS

Assets should be opened with two clicks, the edit button, or using the context menu ‘Open’ command.

Assets and Resources should be renamed hitting 'F2' or double-clicking on the label.

We should add a ‘Rename’ and 'open' command in the context menu for the assets, and a 'Rename' for folders, Resources and Main Menu>Edit

Selecting an Asset (with one click) should show a line in Properties panel with the name of the file, the icon and the path of the file.

The users should be able to multi select assets and resources. Multi-selection will show a 'N (assets) (resources) selected' line in the same way the Studio shows an element multi selection

There's a Prototype showing the proposed changes here:
