Studios Screenshots

29 Jan 2025, 12:48

Hi folks,

Essentially looking for a way to get a snapshot of everything in the current editor window for test and demonstration purposes (preferably with transparency).
Wanted to see if anyone knows of a way to achieve this, or if its a possible future feature.

Thanks,
Axe

Hi Axe! Dorian here!

This is a super interesting ask, and I'm very curious the sort of use case in mind you have for this. This feature doesn't yet exist, but just so I can understand the intention here, do you mind me asking you what the workflow (or destination) you have in mind if say, for example, you could export a PNG with transparency from Studio?

Also, wondering, other than Transparency which you mentioned, what other qualities would be important to you in such a feature? (for example, is exporting at a specific Height x Width important of part of your workflow).

Thanks, catch you again soon!

Hi Dorian,

Essentially the need for this arose when we were looking for a static png version of the UI to be used in a mockup for quick demo purposes. This would mainly be used for presentation and review.

If this were a feature, I'd be looking to have a clean transparency with optional antialiasing and a way to determine resolution. I'm sure other use cases would present other needs, but as an artist that's what I would look for.

Cheers, much appreciated

Hi Axe!

Thank you so much for the added details; this was very helpful.

I've gone ahead and logged a ticket for us to create a feature that will support this wish, which you can find here: #3922

There is some complexity involved with capturing the GPU in a way that would support this feature, so this isn't something that will be able to be delivered immediately, but we do quite passionately agree with the value and utility of a feature like this.

Thank you again for flagging this and for the feedback, we really appreciate it a lot!
