Re: BackgroundEffects in Noesis Studio
Hi Gavmacca, Dorian here!
Thanks for getting back in to us again, it's enormously helpful.
Today we've just been investigating what you've reported, and although the original issue we spoke about was indeed resolved, we've been able to repro what you're now experiencing, and it looks like there's a separate rendering issue that's cropped up.
We've just submitted a fix for this new one, and it'll be available in the next build we publish which should be going out within the week.
Apologies for the wait here; we really appreciate your patience, and helping us track these bugs down.

Howdy all,
If you're following this thread, just wanted to provide and update and let you know that the fixes for the Blurring BackgroundEffect are now available to grab in 💻Beta 0.1.254 .
Thanks for your patience and helping us get this ironed out.

Re: BackgroundEffects in Noesis Studio
Hi Dorian, I'm not actually seeing any difference in this latest version, I have recorded a video of the steps I'm doing (with voice over) so that you can follow I'm seeing, please let me know if I'm doing anything wrong!Howdy all,

Re: BackgroundEffects in Noesis Studio
Hey Gavin,
Thanks for sending this video over; it made diagnosing this a lot easier.
So the key area that requires a correction here, is that when you are applying the BackgroundEffect behaviour to 'TestShape'; its 'Source' Binding must be set to another element in charge of rendering the Background, and not to 'TestShape' itself. This is why that Background element had to be named, so that it could be targeted here. It is important to remark that the Background element can't be an ancestor of your 'TestShape' because it will create a circularity trying to blur itself.
And this should do the trick! Please let us know if this resolved it, or if issues are persisting, and we can continue! :)

Ahhh I see, thanks Dorian. I managed to get it working. I would like to just clarify Noesis Studio's intended best practice/workflow for thisHey Gavin,

Starting with an example in Figma, I can take an existing shape that has some transparency + stroke outline, simply add a background blur to it, and it blurs the fill section element to it, leaving the stroke unaffected.

To achieve the same in Noesis Studio - Is the workflow:
- Take the existing shape you want to blur and separate it out so that its not in the same ancestral hierarchy
- Setup the blur as you have shared previously
- Then if you still want a fill colour with transparency + stroke outline (essentially like the figma example), you need to render that as a separate element that is placed over the top? In otherwords the element that is providing the blur cannot be rendered with colour/stroke?
Thanks!
Re: BackgroundEffects in Noesis Studio
Hi Gavin,
You are correct in your interpretation of the workflow in Noesis Studio.
You do indeed need 2 separate Elements to achieve this effect (one whose purpose is to 'blur', and one whose purpose is to render the 'artwork').
With that said, there is a really neat technique that can be used to essentially reduce to zero the overhead of this duplication though. I've made a short video for you to show this in action and go over how it works:
And here's the file, if you want to take a look and have a play around:

Let me know if there's anything else!
