Gamepad dpad interaction with sliders

21 Jun 2023, 09:39

Hi.

When using keyboard's arrow keys to move focus around once we focus on a slider left/right arrow key changes the value of the slider (without switching control focus).
For dpad it seems that left/right still change focus as if slider was a normal control, and the value of the slider does not change.

Is this by design or is it a bug? Is there any way to change the slider values via gamepad or do I have to make some custom behavior that listens for keydown events and changes the values of the slider by itself?

EDIT:
Sorry, it was an issue on our end where we had some hacks for handling gamepad_accept. I now see that by default you can focus on the thumb of the slider by pressing gamepad_accept and manipulate the slider that way.

Hi,

This is by design. Gamepad navigation uses focus engagement to solve some situations that are present with directional navigation. By default Slider, TextBox, PasswordBox, and ComboBox have focus engagement enabled.

You can disable it in your sliders if your layout allows it:
<Slider IsFocusEngagementEnabled="False".../>
