Missing Rive features

05 Jul 2024, 14:37

Greetings!

I'm using Noesis in C++ and have successfully been able to use inputs and runs on Rive controls. So, I have one-way communication, if you will. However, I have not been able to find a way to let the Rive elements communicate with my application.

For instance, the "GetState" function on my RiveControls always returns an empty string, and I haven't found a way to listen to Rive events. I also haven't been able to find any definitive information from you about what Rive features are actually supported by Noesis GUI. Is there are roadmap for when these things will be added to Noesis GUI?

Hi, Rive events are not yet supported in our RiveControl. I've created issue #3475 to track the implementation of that feature.

Regarding the GetState() method, is something Rive didn't properly expose in its runtime, so we were not able to implement it. We will probably just remove it from our control interface.

Hi! Thanks for the speedy response. Glad to see you aim for Rive events to be supported in 3.2.5!

It sounds strange that Rive wouldn't expose the state correctly. onStateChange is listed in the javascript API, so it looks like that's supposed to work, at least: https://rive.app/community/doc/rive-par ... cHI9ASztXP

Once Noesis GUI supports Rive events, GetState() could just be a convenience function that returns a value (stored inside the RiveControl) which is updated every time onStateChange fires, I guess?
