Current Options for Charts/Data Visualization in NoesisGUI

24 Apr 2025, 17:27

I've reached a point where I need to implement various data visualizations (line charts, bar charts, etc.) to display game statistics, but I'm struggling to find a suitable solution.

I'm aware of the OxyPlot port for NoesisGUI, but it appears to be outdated (last updated 9 years ago) and doesn't meet my requirements for modern, interactive charts. I also tried implementing LiveCharts, but encountered assembly loading errors in Unity ("Unloading broken assembly").

Could someone please advise on current best practices for implementing charts in NoesisGUI? Any guidance, examples, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hello!

It depends on whether you want to reuse an existing solution or build something from scratch.

If you prefer to reuse something, although outdated, OxyPlot is probably still your best option. However, keep in mind that NoesisGUI is not binary compatible with WPF, so using libraries like LiveCharts would require patching and rebuilding them to work with Noesis' runtime.

If you decide to build from scratch, the most efficient (but less MVVM-friendly) approach is to render directly in the OnRender method using the DrawingContext.
For a more MVVM-friendly solution, you can define your visual elements using Geometries directly in XAML.

Please let me know more about your requirements, I'd be happy to guide you further!
