Cannot open DataBinding sample with Unreal Engine 5.4

04 Aug 2025, 17:10

Hi!
I'm trying to open DataBinding sample to understand how to bind my game data in UE5.4 project using Noesis. But I have next message while opening uproject (message.png)
If I try to Generate Visual Studio Project files I get next error:
Generating VisualStudio project files:
Discovering modules, targets and source code for project...
Compiled assembly file 'D:\Work\Tutorials\Samples\DataBinding\UE4\Intermediate\Build\BuildRules\DataBindingModuleRules.dll' appears to be for a newer CLR version or is otherwise invalid. Unreal Build Tool will try to recompile this assembly now. (Exception: Could not load file or assembly 'D:\Work\Tutorials\Samples\DataBinding\UE4\Intermediate\Build\BuildRules\DataBindingModuleRules.dll'. Format of the executable (.exe) or library (.dll) is invalid.)
D:\Work\Tutorials\Samples\DataBinding\UE4\Source\DataBindingEditor.Target.cs(11,12): error CS1520: Method must have a return type
Total execution time: 2.05 seconds
Expecting to find a type to be declared in a target rules named 'DataBindingTarget'. This type must derive from the 'TargetRules' type defined by UnrealBuildTool.
What can I do to fix that?

Hi,

I'm not sure exactly why it doesn't like those target files in particular. For now, until we resolve the issue, please download the Unreal package from the Downloads section. It contains that sample and more.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi again,

The issue has been resolved, it was a silly typo that took me longer than I like to admit to spot.

Sorry again for the inconvenience.

Best regards!
