Crash inside NVIDIA driver DLL (when using Noesis 3.2.4)

27 May 2026, 05:01

Hi,

We observe that our application may crash inside NVIDIA DLL worker thread. The Callstack is below. It happens when we are showing a preview window which has bitmapimage periodically updated.

We are still using Noesis 3.2.4 and wonder if it may be a known problem in NoesisGUI and already fixed in the later version.
In that case, can you tell me which fix I can cherry pick to apply to 3.2.4.

Hey Nico,

Is this happening with D3D12? Have you tried running everything in debug mode, including enabling SetEnableGPUBasedValidation, which is available in our D3D12RenderContext?
#if 0
    ID3D12Debug1* debug1 = 0;
    V(debug->QueryInterface(DX_ARGS(&debug1)));
    debug1->SetEnableGPUBasedValidation(true);
    DX_RELEASE(debug1);
#endif
Thank you!

Thanks for the reply.

I am still using D3D11. The bug is not easy to reproduce and it only happens on a few machines (with different OS, GPU, and drivers).

In parallel we are also investigating our code that may cause memory access violations (thus crashing the driver), so asking here to collect as much information as possible.

In your release note (https://www.noesisengine.com/docs/Gui.C ... gelog.html), you mentioned
Fixed Crash uploading data to a destroyed CachedBitmap (#4986).
What is the symptoms of that problem ? May it cause the driver to crash ?

#4986 was a crash in a rare scenario synchronizing the IView and the IRenderer. It was not related to the GPU.

How complicated would it be for you to upgrade to the latest version of Noesis? Is there anything specific blocking you?

Hi Jesus, Thanks, I see.

Our further investigations found that sometimes the crash is not happening in the driver, but in our code. So most probably it is a problem on our code (memory access error causing error on the driver). Sorry to bothering in here.

As of Noesis, we are planning to upgrade in the next major version.
We avoid upgrading too often unless the version is unstable. Although the Noesis itself is small, but the effect is to the entire App, and we need to do it very carefully.

Thanks, Nico. Please keep me posted.

Version 3.2.13 is very stable and will probably be the last 3.2.x release before 4.0, which is planned for release before Gamescom
