Fonts & images not found with absolute path

05 Aug 2026, 02:49

Hello! I am having an issue with Noesis not locating font resources when they are in folders higher in the tree than the xaml where they are referenced. My folder structure looks like this:
[Root]
-[Folder1]
--MyScreen1.xaml
--[Assets]
---[Fonts]
----FontFile.otf
-[Folder2]
--MyScreen2.xaml

When trying to use the font in MyScreen2.xaml, it works properly in Studio, but I get an error in VS Code and it doesn't use the correct font in the game. In the xaml, the font is referenced like this: FontFamily="/GameName;component/Folder1/Assets/Fonts/#Font" and VS Code and Unreal are giving the error "font not found". With the same font in MyScreen1.xaml, it all works properly with a relative path to the font.

Any ideas what could be wrong here? Do I have something set up incorrectly, or is this a bug?

I am having this problem with images as well. Also want to add that anything referencing these fonts/images in my global resources works correctly.

Would really appreciate any help!

In our Unreal plugin we are mapping each assembly to the corresponding Unreal's content root. This means that a Uri in the format "/Game;component/Path/To/Asset" would be searched in the project at "/Game/Content/Path/To/Asset".

So your Studio project should be created with the <Assembly>Game</Assembly> to correctly map your assets. Then you will have in Studio something like:
StudioProject/
  · StudioProject.noesis
  Folder1/
    · MyScreen1.xaml
    Assets/
      Fonts/
        · FontFile.otf
  Folder2/
    · MyScreen2.xaml
And in Unreal you will import those assets to:
Content/
  Folder1/
    · MyScreen1.uasset
    Assets/
      Fonts/
        · FontFile.uasset
  Folder2/
    · MyScreen2.uasset
With this setup, when you want to reference a font (or image) from MyScreen2.xaml that is placed under Folder1, it will use an absolute syntax like this:
<TextBlock FontFamily="/Game;component/Folder1/Assets/Fonts/#FontFamilyName"/>
You can also have Studio projects defined for Plugins, and use the Plugin name as the assembly, so it maps the assets to the plugin's Content folder.

Thank you! I shifted my folder structure to match, but I am still have one issue.

The generated paths for my assets start with "/NoesisProjectName;component/" but they only work in Unreal when I change this to "/Game;component/". Which way is intended? And how can I make these paths work by default?

I figured out what was going on. I had changed
<Assembly> NoesisProjectName </Assembly>
to
<Assembly> Game </Assembly>
but this didn't update the paths for any assets that were already in the Studio project. If I delete & re-add them, they use the correct path when assigned, but I still need to fix all the existing references.

Yes, you are right. If you modify the project file, the changes are not currently applied to the corresponding assets. This must be done manually for now.

Now that we are reviewing the documentation for 4.0, I’ll make sure the details about the “Game” assembly are properly explained.
