Currently, to create a keyframe that maintains its current value, users must navigate to its corresponding setting in the properties panel, select the 3 dots, and select "Create keyframe" from the menu. In other software, creating a keyframe with its current value can be done directly in the timeline.

Attached is a mockup that shows integration of creating a keyframe within the timeline. It can function similarly to the Gradient Steps stepper-- where the arrows will allow users to navigate to the next or previous keyframe.

The option to create a keyframe can appear when hovering over or selecting an Element's Property line item in the Timeline. Arrows to navigate to the next or previous keyframe will be disabled when there is no previous/next keyframe to navigate to. The diamond between the two arrows will create a keyframe of the property's current value when selected. When a keyframe is created or selected, the diamond will turn blue to indicate a keyframe exists at the current time in the timeline. Tooltips for the arrows will read, "Select next/previous keyframe." The tooltip for the diamond will read "Add or remove keyframe at current time."
