Additional Asset folders or setting root folder to different folder?

16 Jan 2026, 22:14

Is there some way to define a different folder as the "root" folder for assets in Studio? I use a custom C++ engine and I have a folder structure like this for my game assets:
-Content
-UI
-Meshes
-Logos
-Audio

The UI folder has my Noesis Studio project inside of it. Now if I want to reference something from my "Logos" folder there is no way to do it as the asset panel in Studio only shows everything relative to the UI folder and below. Is there a way to add the Logos folder as an additional source for assets?

Also on another note: All my Noesis Content is relative to the Content folder, which means so far when I manually created views on vscode I would reference via relative path to the content folder (e.g. UI/Textures/image.png). When I use studio now and reference one of my textures under the UI folder it puts Textures/image.png as the path (since its relative to the studio project) which means my asset system is not picking it up as the full path is Content/Textures/image.png instead of Content/UI/Textures/image.png
Is there some way to customize the way Noesis writes the paths to the xamls to get around this?

I know that I can fix all of this by putting the Studio Project into the Content folder instead of the UI folder. But then I have all my other folders in the asset view and studio shows textures from my 3d models for example since that is in the same hierarchy now.

Any tips on how to fix this situation would be great.

You can’t reference any asset that isn’t relative to the location of your project file. However, you can "exclude" folders. My recommendation is to place your project at the root, exclude everything, and then specifically allow the folder you want to appear in Studio.
<Project>
    <IgnoredFiles>
        <Ignore>*</Ignore>
        <Allow>UI/</Allow>
        <Allow>Logos/</Allow>
    </IgnoredFiles>
</Project>
Please let me know if this works for you.

This is exactly the type of thing I have been looking for. thanks for pointing me to it. I tried looking for it in the Editor UI only.
Thank you!

Sorry to revive this post but it may be related.

My project (unreal) was having the noesis studio project like :
MyProject/UI/...
     /MyNoesisProject.noesis
     /Views/
     /Resources/
 AND
 MyProject/Content/UI/...
     /Views/
     /Resources/

I had tried to configure as you said, <AssetsRoot> or to change the assetName but whatever I tried, the assets such as fonts,Rive,images etc (anything requiring asset uri) was getting the uri wrong and the UI/ was missing (as if Noesis ignored the root location and used the .noesis location to generate the path to).

Is this intentional and the noesis studio project file needs to be at the root of the project or is there a way to add a configuration in the .noesis file so that it either append the missing bit of the path automatically (or manually by defining it)?

Hello,

The Studio project folder structure must match the one in Unreal Content folder. So if you have a all the UI related things inside Content/UI/, in Studio you have to place all the xamls and resources inside a UI folder:
MyProject/UI/...
    /MyNoesisProejct.noesis
    /UI/
        /Views/
        /Resources/
Equivalent to Unreal:
MyProject/Content/...
     /UI/
          /Views/
          /Resources/
Have you tried that?

Hi yes it actually works fine here and my folder tree match both inside and outside of content.

My question is that it seems that the Uri generated by studio only work if the .noesis file is at the root of the project (so outside the "UI/" folder in the example) my question was is there a way to place this .noesis file anywhere else (in my case I would like to put it inside the UI/ folder and tell it to Append UI/ in the Uri

For example : If I place my Project.noesis file in the <ProjectRoot>/UI/ file, the uris being generated are relative to this new path in the xaml for example :
"/Game;component/Resources/Fonts/#My Font Family"
the issue is that this shows properly in Noesis studio but it doesn't while running the game as the actual correct Uri is :
"/Game;component/UI/Resources/Fonts/#My Font Family"

There is no way in Studio to specify a folder that will be appended to the Uris. As I mentioned the Uris are always relative to where the .noesis file is placed, so if you want to put the .noesis inside <MyProject>/UI folder, and then map the assets into <MyProject>/Content/UI/, you have to put everything in the Studio project inside a UI folder: <MyProject>/UI/UI/

Hi Sfernandez, thanks for confirming. I will make sure I respect this location for my .noesis then thanks!
