Tutorial samples with Studio
Hi, I've worked with NoesisGUI before by writing the XAML myself, but I'm trying to get familiar with Studio. My plan was to look at the Tutorial samples and try to recreate them in Studio. I'm specifically working with the UserControl sample. Coming from a WPF background, I'm used to producing XAML that is more like the sample, so I'm trying to figure out what the correct approach for doing something like creating a UserControl is in Studio.
One of the things that I'm having some issues with are defining the dependency properties. I've heard from other teammates that Components are being deprecated, so I didn't want to pursue a Component with Dynamic Properties. I saw in the release notes that version 0.3.300 "Added support for Custom Properties to control templates". Are Custom Properties on control templates the intended workflow for essentially creating dependency properties in Studio?

Re: Tutorial samples with Studio
We’re still finishing the samples for Noesis 4.0, but I recommend downloading the latest beta of the C++ SDK and trying the UserControl sample. This sample has been updated to be more Studio-friendly. That said, creating a UserControl will always require a programmer.
For simpler scenarios, where a programmer may not be necessary, you can use templates together with dynamic properties. Templates now include a Dynamic Properties section where you can define custom properties (just like in Components). These properties can then be configured for each object that uses the template.
And yes, you're right that Components are no longer the recommended approach. Templates with dynamic properties are the preferred replacement for most of the use cases that Components previously covered.
We’re also preparing documentation and a video that will explain this workflow in more detail.

Hey mreutebuch, Dorian here!
Just dropping by to let you know that to help out here, I'm currently in the process of putting together a Tutorial in our documentation running through a classic scenario of setting up Custom Properties in a Template which will cover the ins-and-outs of this --- will post again in this thread before end of week with this.
Thanks for dropping by to message us, and for your patience as we get this prepared for you.

Re: Tutorial samples with Studio
Hey all! Thank you for the great tutorial; I was able to follow along and get going with Custom Properties. I really appreciated the demonstration with the Animation and Interactivity Panels to show how they can tie in with the other capabilities in Studio. While I was going through, I saw a few inconsistencies in the tutorial I wanted to surface to you guys:
- Step 5.8: Instructs reader to clear Width on TextBlock. Following screenshots show the TextBlock with its Width still set until Section 7. Text Binding
- Step 5.10: Says the 'Fill' property is in the Layout section. It's in the Appearance section
- Sections 6+: Keyboard shortcuts read "Ctrl (Hold) + [Key]". Shortcuts prior to Section 6 read "Ctrl + [Key]"

Hey mreutebuch; thank you so much for coming back to this thread and letting us know how it all went; thrilled to hear that this was productive and beneficial 😊.
Beyond that, also particularly appreciative of the notes you made and relayed over --- I've gone ahead and made all corrections this morning, and they'll be included in the next update we upload!
Thanks again, and let us know if there's anything else we can do!
